Week 2 Cloth Diapering

Hey Everyone!  So this is now week 2 of cloth diapering!  We are doing great!  No more leaks durring the day but we have been using a disposable at night to avoid any sleep disruption.  I ended up trading in the Thirsties Duo Diapers that didn't fit for some Bottombumper Diapers.  So far the Bottombumers are ok.  I think I may need to get used to them since they are designed so differently than the other diapers I have.

I would say that my favorite diaper is still the BumGenius Diaper, but I do have a concern with it being an AIO diaper.  I feel like the diaper will wear out faster since the entire thing needs to go into the dryer every time I wash it.  I did order a BumGenius 4.0 Pocket Diaper that should be arriving some time today.  Hopefully I like that one and it works just as well as the Freetime Diaper we currently have.

We are currently using the Allens Naturally Diaper Detergent.  What is your favorite cloth diaper detergent?

First Impressions on Cloth Diapering

Madison is almost 6 months old and since she was born I have been curious about and considered cloth diapering.  Friends and family have told me how gross it is and how it just isn't worth the hassle.  I finally got to a point where I really wanted to be educated on it and try it out.  I found a place called Rosie Posie Baby that offered a 2 week trial with brand new cloth diapers!  I was so excited!  The diapers that I chose to try were: 2 BumGenius FreeTime, 2 Tots Bots Easy Fit, and 2 Rump-a-rooz.  I also got 2 Thirsties Duo diapers but they were too small so I was unable to use them.   I am going to try to trade them for another diaper so I can get the most use out of my trial period.

I started using my cloth diapers on Sunday, October 14th.  Sunday went great during the day we had no leaks!  However, Sunday night we did have a leak.  We had on a Rump-a-rooz and it leaked out of the top of the diaper, which is strange for a girl.  I am thinking that its possible that my husband didn't have the waist band tight enough.  On Monday, I had 2 more leaks with the Tots Bots Easy Fit diapers.  This time the leak was around the legs.  I am not sure if I just waited too long to change her diaper or what.  Monday night we decided to put her in a disposable to avoid disrupting her sleep due to a diaper leak like Sunday night.

In my trial I was also given some pre-folds and a doubler.   I am going to try putting some pre-folds in the less bulky diapers and see if that helps with absorbency.  I will also try adding the one doubler that I got to one of the less bulky diapers and see if that helps at all.

So far I have not had any leaks in the BumGenuis FreeTime diapers.

Since this is only my 3rd day using cloth diapers I am in no way close to making up my mind on them, but I will say that disposables have been far easier with a lesser learning curve.  I have never had a leak with my Pampers!

I am still using disposable wipes as that is just easier for us and we are also using Bummis Bio Soft Disposable Liners in the diapers too.  I do like the liners for the poop.  It makes it so much easier to just flush the poop and it keeps the actual diaper much cleaner.

The cleaning of the diapers has not been a big deal for me at all and I haven't noticed it making the house smell or anything.  Those were some of our concerns when we were considering cloth diapers.  I do put the dirty diapers inside of a wet bag until it is time for washing.

I am going to continue on with my 2 week trial and see how I feel at the end of the 2 weeks.  If I end up exchanging out the Thirsties that are too small I will update this post and add in my experience with those diapers.

Do you have experience with cloth diapers?  What are your favorites for day & night?
